accessing online classes

Zoom is the platform we are using to offer our online classes and workshops. It can be set up on a computer, iPad or tablet or smartphone. Once set up it is easy to use for chatting with friends and family, conducting meetings or webinars &

classes. Please find below the general instructions for each type of device.

Further help can be found on the excellent Zoom Support website here.

For security purposes, you will not be able to access any online classes, workshops or meetings

without a free registered Zoom account.

Please make sure you have everything set up well before the start time, preferably the day before.

If you have any problem getting set up you're welcome to email me here

iPad or iPhone
  1. Download the free Zoom Cloud Meetings app from the app store.

  2. Once downloaded, click on the app to open it.

  3. If you've never used Zoom on any other device before, sign up for a free account. If you already have a Zoom account, sign in.

  4. When signing up, it will ask for your birthday, email address, first & last name and a password. Don't forget to write down your password and let your Apple device remember it for you if you are comfortable with that. Your device will also ask for various permissions such as access to your camera, microphone and calendar, the ability to use Zoom with Siri, whether to use Touch ID or Face ID with Zoom if you have those set up, and whether it can send you notifications. Many of these are necessary to use Zoom and the others are very useful so I suggest saying yes to all of them. Permissions can be changed later if needed via the devices Settings app at Settings > Privacy and Settings > Zoom.

  5. Next time you go to the app choose 'Sign In' if it doesn't automatically take you to your Home page.

  6. To join a class or workshop you're booked in for, about 5min before the time the class is supposed to start, click on the link in the email you were sent and choose to Join with or without video (you can change this at any time during the class). You'll either get instant access, see a message letting you know the meeting hasn't started yet or you'll enter the "Waiting Room" and the host/tutor will admit you into the class or workshop once they are ready to start.

  7. Alternatively, you can sign in to your Zoom app, click on Join, then enter the Meeting ID and password from the email you received.
